COVERED EMPLOYMENT includes employees working for firms subject to the Indiana Employment and Training Services Act. The Act, in general,         includes employers with one or more employees.  Excluded are railroads, small nonprofit institutions, and churches.  Beginning with January 1, 1978 all state and local government is covered.   Accredited private and parochial school employment is also covered.  However, only part of the employment in private households and on farms is included in the expanded coverage. Federal government civilian employees are covered by the UCFE programs and are not included in these figures.  Employment and Earnings data are rounded to the nearest ten ( 10 ).

AVERAGE WEEKLY EARNINGS are computed from the quarterly earnings and average employment of all employees in establishments covered by the Act.  The figures are computed from payroll totals so they include all employees -- janitors, company officers, factory workers, office employees -- instead of only production workers.  Average weekly earnings are rounded to the nearest dollar.

Beginning January, 2001, the average weekly earnings for manufacturing are based on the North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) codes.
This is a change from the Standard Industry Classification (SIC) system codes.
